Copy the file onto an SD card, put the card in your unit, and use its import or waypoint menu. If the unit can't see it, move it out of any folder. Read the notes first.
Brush bundles - natural woody debris, two to five per site, sunk in 10 to 15 feet. The permit authorises 75 to 111 bundles across the 37 sites, placed in five phases, and the authorisation runs through summer 2027.
This map is the approved plan, not a dive log. The project is phased and ongoing, nobody has dived these sites, and there is no recorded installation date in the state file. Your sonar tells you which sites have brush on them today. If you ride a mark and find bare bottom, that is genuinely useful information - tell us the site number.
Always check the current guide before you keep fish. Michigan updates these every year and they can change without warning — what is listed here is the 2026 edition. The live guide is at michigan.gov/eatsafefish, which has a lake-by-lake lookup and full serving sizes.
Good to about 80 feet in any direction. Idle over the mark and read your sonar rather than expecting to drop straight onto the structure.
All 37 coordinates match the EGLE-stamped plan to within about ten feet, and every point lands inside Gun Lake on the state's own lake-boundary layer - none of them drifted onto a lawn or into the wrong lake. Depth contours are Michigan DNR inland lake survey data.
These are the approved sites, not every piece of structure in Gun Lake. Plenty goes in without paperwork and none of that is here.
The Gun Lake Protective Association - the same volunteers who have raised walleye on this lake since 1910. Every spring when the ice goes out they flood rearing ponds built beside the lake, stock them with up to 100,000 DNR fry, release the fingerlings by Memorial Day, and drain the ponds so insects can colonise the mud and become next season's fish food. They have been doing this for more than 110 years, and they buy another 60,000 fingerlings every fall on top of it. The brush shelters are the newest chapter of that operation.
We didn't put these in the lake - the association's volunteers are. If this file is useful to you, consider joining or donating to the GLPA.
Frontage here is largely private. The water is public, the shoreline is not. Give docks room and don't leave line on the structure - a shelter wrapped in braid stops holding fish.
