Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Zero Trailer Parking
There are literally no designated trailer spots here. This is a campground with a small launch tacked on — if you're towing a boat, you're going to be improvising parking among the campsites or along the road. Works fine for kayaks, canoes, or small car-toppers, but don't show up with a 20-foot walleye rig expecting to stage.
Single Lane Bottleneck
One lane, built in 2019, so the concrete is still in decent shape. But with one lane and no real trailer staging area, you can get jammed up fast on a summer Saturday when campers are trying to get their pontoons in. Weekday mornings are a completely different experience — practically empty.
Campground Crowd Factor
This is first and foremost a campground, and June through August it's packed with families, RVs, and kids everywhere. The beach area and launch share the same waterfront vibe, so expect foot traffic, swimmers, and general chaos near the ramp during peak afternoon hours. Early morning is your window.
Better Alternatives Nearby
If you're serious about launching anything bigger than a jon boat onto Lake Charlevoix, head to the Boyne City launch or the DNR site on the north arm. Both have multiple lanes and actual trailer parking. Tourist Park is great if you're already camping here and want to drop a kayak in, but it's not a real boating hub.
Shallow & Warm Southeast Corner
The southeast tip of Lake Charlevoix where this sits is notably shallow — you can wade way out before it gets deep. Great for swimming kids, but it means you need to pay attention at the ramp with anything that has real draft. Later in summer when levels drop, it gets even skinnier.
