Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Single Lane Bottleneck
One lane for launching and loading means you're waiting your turn, and it backs up fast. Weekends in summer can turn into a 30-minute ordeal, especially when someone's struggling to back their trailer. Midweek mornings are a totally different experience — you'll practically have the ramp to yourself.
Parking Shell Game
There are zero dedicated trailer spots near the ramp itself. You launch, then have to pull your truck and trailer way back to the main parking lot. That means everyone in line waits while you hike back to the ramp to tie off or move your boat off the dock. It's a clunky sequence that compounds the single-lane problem.
East Bay Conditions
You're launching into Grand Traverse Bay's east arm here, and it can go from glass to whitecaps surprisingly fast as afternoon winds pick up. Plan to be on the water early if you're in a smaller boat. The ramp surface is solid — it was built in 2017 — so the approach and grade are in good shape.
Confusing Layout
First time in, the signage is rough. The bathrooms are buried somewhere in the woods and genuinely hard to find — even people who've been a few times miss them. Navigation through the park is a little disorienting too, with the boat launch area, park beach parking, and pavilion roads all branching off without clear markers. Drive through once to orient yourself before you commit with a trailer.
Five Bucks Cash
Launch fee is $5 — you fill out an envelope on the honor system when you arrive. No credit card, no app. Bring small bills or you're donating extra to Acme Township.
