Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Small Boats Only
This is a single-lane ramp on a narrow bayou — think jon boats, canoes, and kayaks. If you're trying to launch anything over 18 feet, you're going to have a bad time getting turned around in that tight space.
Bluegill Factory
The bayou is loaded with bluegills. You can drop a worm just about anywhere along the shoreline nooks and pull them in all day. Don't expect much variety, but if you want a quick panfish outing, this is the spot.
Fall Duck Hunting Access
This launch gets steady use from duck hunters once the season opens. The bayou has plenty of marshy pockets and the geese are thick here. Expect trailer spots to go quick on opening weekend mornings — get there well before dawn.
State Park Administered
Hoffmaster State Park runs this site, so you'll need a valid Recreation Passport on your vehicle. Easy to forget since it doesn't feel like a state park — it's just a quiet bayou launch off the road with no gate or ranger presence.
The Smell Factor
In the warmer months, the bayou can get pretty ripe — shallow, slow-moving water with a lot of organic muck on the bottom. It's not a dealbreaker, but if you're bringing someone who isn't a fishing or hunting person, fair warning.
