Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
The Big One
Largest launch on Higgins Lake — 9 ramps inside a protected boat basin with day-mooring, 5 piers, and 210 trailer spots. Two-lane boat wash and boat-cleaning station on the way out. DNR staff direct traffic on busy days. If you want the easiest, most full-service launch experience on the lake, this is it.
Deep Water
One of the only deep launches on the lake. Multiple reviewers call it out as the best option for larger boats and float-off trailers. If Higgins Lake West's shallow approach is a problem for your rig, come here instead.
Crowding
Weekends peak between 11 AM and 5 PM. Holiday weekends are very busy but the 9-ramp, staffed setup handles volume better than West or North. Overflow parking across the street when the lakeside lot fills. Weekday launches are easy.
Swimmers Itch
Multiple visitors report swimmers itch, especially in shallow nearshore areas. Outdoor showers are available — use them immediately when exiting the water. Toweling off quickly helps too, as friction kills the parasites. Getting out to deeper water by boat avoids the worst of it.
More Than a Ramp
This is a full state park — campground, sandy beach, swim areas, playground, park store with food and rentals (kayak, SUP, pontoon, floats mid-May through September). Pet-friendly beach sections. Outdoor showers at the beach. Modern restrooms in the day-use area and campground beyond the vault toilet at the ramp. Picnic shelters reservable 12 months in advance. Marl Lake across CR-100 offers quiet paddling with electric motors only.
