The Big Alternative
Six lanes, 89 trailer spots, 5 piers — this is the second-largest launch on Houghton Lake after the South launch. Often the go-to when the South launch is packed. Plenty of room to navigate with a truck and trailer, and reviewers say most boaters here are skilled launchers — quick in and out.
Shallow Water
Same problem as most of Houghton Lake's shoreline. Multiple reviewers report the launch area and canal are too shallow for deep-V fishing boats. DNR has been asked to dredge but it hasn't happened. If you're running a deep-V hull, test depth before committing.
Swimmer's Itch
At least one reviewer reported getting swimmer's itch from launching here. The shallow, warm water near shore creates habitat for the parasites that cause it. This is a lake-wide issue, not specific to this launch, but worth knowing — avoid wading in warm shallows during mid-summer.
Lagoon Fishing
The launch area has a lagoon that locals use for shore fishing. Forum reports mention it as a decent spot for panfish and bass without needing a boat.
