Winter & Ice Safety

Bruin Lake freezes reliably. Ice fishing is possible but verify conditions — the lake is relatively small and sheltered.

Scout's Notes
Lake Vibe & Fishing Intel

Bruin Lake is a small, quiet campground lake inside Pinckney State Recreation Area. At 136 acres it's not a destination lake — it's a base camp. The real draw is the chain access: Hell Creek connects Bruin to Hiland Lake and eventually to the town of Hell, MI, making it a surprisingly good paddling hub.

The campground is the main attraction here — 215 modern sites with full facilities, popular with families and mountain bikers hitting the Potawatomi Trail. The lake itself sees modest fishing pressure. Largemouth bass, bluegill, and northern pike are the main species. Nothing trophy-sized, but consistent action for casual anglers.
