Scout's Notes

Gorge Falls offers one of the more dramatic views along the Black River Scenic Byway, with water plunging 24 feet through a narrow rocky chasm. The walk from either parking area is short and mostly level, but you'll encounter a significant stairway system to reach the best viewing platforms — expect to navigate multiple flights of wooden stairs if they're open. Unfortunately, the main viewing platforms and stairs have been closed for repairs since at least 2023, which means you'll only get partial views from the top. Many visitors combine this stop with nearby Potawatomi Falls, which shares the same parking areas and trail system. When the platforms are open, look for the overlook marked 'gorge' for the most spectacular view down into the canyon. The falls maintain good flow through most of the year thanks to the Black River's consistent volume.
