Scout's Notes

Munising Falls offers one of the easiest waterfall experiences in the UP, with an 800-foot paved path from the visitor center parking lot to multiple viewing platforms. The 50-75 foot tiered waterfall drops dramatically through a sandstone canyon, creating an impressive sight that's especially powerful during spring snowmelt but can reduce to a trickle by late summer. Most visitors spend 20-30 minutes here, choosing between the lower boardwalk viewpoint or climbing stairs to upper platforms on either side — the right-hand stairs tend to offer the best views according to frequent visitors. As of spring 2025, the trail was severely damaged by flooding and is closed for major repairs expected to last until 2027. When open, this is the most accessible major waterfall in Pictured Rocks, with flush toilets at the trailhead and the visitor center where you can purchase park passes. The large paved lot fills up by mid-morning on summer weekends, and the trail gets crowded with families since it's wheelchair accessible to the lower viewpoint.
