Frequently Asked Questions
Where exactly is Ogemaw Falls and how do I find the trail?
Look for a pond/swamp on the left side of the road, then park on the wide shoulder directly across from it. The trail entrance is on the right side, marked only by a small ground-level sign that's often hidden by brush. The trail is right across from the pond, near a yellow caution turn sign.
How far is the hike to Ogemaw Falls?
It's an extremely short walk — only about 5 minutes or a couple hundred meters from the road to the falls. One of the shortest waterfall hikes in the Upper Peninsula.
Why can't I find Ogemaw Falls with GPS?
Google Maps often takes people too far down the road or onto the wrong two-track logging road. Don't follow GPS blindly — look for the pond on your left and park across from it. Several visitors have gotten lost following GPS directions.
Is there a parking lot at Ogemaw Falls?
No, there's no official parking lot. You park on the wide shoulder of the road across from the pond. The shoulder is wide enough for safe parking but space is limited.
What's the trail like to Ogemaw Falls?
It's a short unmaintained foot path through the woods that has deteriorated in recent years. Windstorms have knocked down trees that now block parts of the trail and obstruct views. The path is still passable but requires stepping over or around fallen trees.
Can I climb down to the base of Ogemaw Falls?
Yes, you can scramble down a steep slope to reach the rock table at the base where you can explore the intricate water channels. Be very careful as the rocks are slippery and the descent is steep.
Are bugs a problem at Ogemaw Falls?
Yes, mosquitoes can be terrible here, especially in summer. Multiple visitors also reported finding ticks on themselves after visiting. Bring bug spray and do a thorough tick check afterward.
Is Ogemaw Falls worth visiting?
Despite being small, most visitors find it enchanting and worth the stop, especially since it's such a short walk. The unique tiered structure spreading across the rock table makes it particularly photogenic. It pairs well with nearby Canyon Falls for a waterfall tour.
