Ramp Quirks & Etiquette
Steep Ramp Warning
This is one of the steepest ramps in the metro Detroit area — not exaggerating. It's solid concrete all the way into the water, which is great, but the grade catches people off guard, especially with a heavier boat. The docks can get slippery too, so watch your footing when it's wet.
Weekend Zoo
Weekdays here are a dream — peaceful water, fast launches, minimal wait. Weekends and holidays? Total zoo. Jet skiers swarm the lake, retrieval lines back up, and tempers flare at the ramp. If you're going Saturday or Sunday, get there early morning or just accept the chaos.
Better Than Rawsonville
If you're deciding between this and the Rawsonville Road launch on the west end, come here — especially when it's busy. The 2016 rebuild gave this place four lanes, proper docks, and 124 trailer spots. Rawsonville can't compete on capacity. The staging area is spacious enough to rig a 21-footer without feeling rushed.
Tight Trailer Spots
Despite the big lot, the individual parking spots are on the narrow side. If you're pulling anything wider than a standard bass boat trailer, you'll be squeezing in. A dual-axle pontoon trailer will eat into the neighboring spot. Get there before mid-morning on weekends or you'll be circling.
Rec Passport Required
This is administered as a state park facility, so you need a Michigan Recreation Passport on your plate to park here. No day-use pay station — if you don't have the passport sticker, you're getting a ticket. Worth the annual fee if you launch here even a few times a season.
